GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR THE YEAR

National Show Trading Cards

Our committee will again be producing National Show trading card sets. This year, in addition the champion winners, we will also produce a Reserve Champion set. This project has begun with ADGA member Andrea Forrest working on the cards. The 2004 sets will be available for purchase at the 2004 Convention.

New Breed Portraits for Nigerians and Sables

We have communicated with the Type committee on this issue. Pat Hendrickson, chair of that committee has informed me that her committee is working with artist Regina Stahl to come with up new "True Type" portraits of all ADGA breeds. We are hoping to have Regina do the portraits for Nigerians and Sables as well. Our committee will be working with the Type committee before any official portrait is approved for use by ADGA.

New ADGA logo

We have not determined as of this writing whether an entirely new ADGA logo will be designed or the current ADGA logo will be updated to accommodate the Sable and Nigerian. Our committee has discussed the possibility of holding a logo contest and publicizing that contest through ADGA News and Events and other dairy goat publications. Any input from the board of directors has on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE WORK AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR

Proposal passed at the committee level regarding new breed portraits for Nigerians and Sables. Artist Regina Stahl was contacted for price estimates. Her cost is $250 per portrait. The Breed Standards committee is also working on this project and no decision has been reached as far as the ideal artistic rendition of the individual breeds but it is my hope that this issue will be resolved in the coming months and the new portraits will be completed by next year.

The production of 2004 National and Reserve National Champion trading cards is underway and the sets will be available for purchase at the 2004 ADGA Convention.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

Expenses: None
Revenue: $390 since November, 2003, largely from trading card sales.
In addition, there were 134 educational videos loaned from the ADGA office.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
None.
DECISIONS REQUIRING BOARD ACTION
Replacement of Current ADGA Showmanship Video

Last year our committee approved the replacement of the Educational showmanship video that is currently being distributed by ADGA. Comments from ADGA members who had borrowed the original showmanship video were overwhelmingly negative because the quality of the video's sound and production values were low.

The Minnesota Dairy Goat Association produced its own series of videos that illustrate grooming and showmanship techniques. A proposal to replace the current ADGA showmanship videos with the MDGA videos passed at the committee level and was also approved by the Minnesota Board of Directors in the fall of 2003. MDGA resolved that ADGA could distribute their videos with an agreement in place that called for a 50-50 share of any profits resulting from the sale of the videos. No financial gain would result from loaned videos as long as credit is given to the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association in the distribution of this educational material.

Before the current video can be replaced, however, we seek board approval to officially replace the current ADGA showmanship video with the Minnesota Dairy Association's grooming and showmanship video.

Funding for Breed Portraits As noted earlier, new breed portraits by artist Regina Stahl have been quoted for $250 each. The Type committee is also working on this project. Total cost for all breed portraits, including the Nigerian and Sable will be $2,000. We seek board approval for this funding so the portraits may be completed by the end of 2005.

WORK TO BE COMPLETED BY NEXT YEAR'S COMMITTEE

1) Ongoing Trading Card project for 2005;
a. ADGA member Andrea Forrest has handled the production of these cards in the past and I am hopeful she will continue her involvement with his project.
2) Oversee new breed portrait project; communicate with artist and chairperson of Type committee
3) Publicize the development of a new ADGA logo that will incorporate the Sable and Nigerian
4) Updating portions of the Breeding, Feeding and Management handbook that would be available for download off the ADGA website.

LONG RANGE GOALS FOR COMMITTEE

We continue to explore longer range goals which involve updating the Breeding, Feeding and Management Handbook and producing dairy goat owner directories for each state in conjunction with state agricultural departments that would be available to the public.
