Dear ADGA Members,
The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) was established in
1983
to collect, analyze, and disseminate data on animal health, management,
and
productivity across the United States. The NAHMS team conducts national
studies on the health and health management of America's domestic
livestock
populations. These studies are designed to meet the information needs of
the
industries associated with these groups, as identified by people within
those industries. It is an opportunity for producers to express their
opinions.
Your input is needed to help identify the most important issues facing
the
U.S. goat industry. In 2009, the National Animal Health Monitoring
System
(NAHMS) will launch the Goat 2009 study, the first national look at the
U.S.
goat industry. However, before the study begins, NAHMS is conducting a
needs
assessment that seeks information from goat producers and industry
stakeholders. This information will be used to develop the study's
objectives. Participation in the needs assessment phase is quick and easy, and does not require any personal or farm information from the participant.
Please go here to complete survey:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=dCcSyZWoPfaVyu6Mj_2bgNTg_3d_3d
Only about 800 responses have been received to date, and approximately
17%
have been from dairy goat producers; 46% from meat goat producers; 3%
from
fiber goat producers; 9% from those with meat and dairy; and the rest
from
others with an interest in the goat industry.
To date, the areas of focus receiving the greatest response was for
infectious disease diagnosis/treatment; marketing milk, meat and fiber;
nutrition/feed management and doe and kid health/management. (Top three
choices can be selected).
Dairy goat producers need to add their opinions! Please submit your
responses now! Survey was excpectd to close on January 31, 2008, but
has
been extended a few more weeks. Recommendations will be made based on
responses received through this survey, so it is important that goat
producers provide feedback. Please forward to others who might be able
to
help.
Thank you for your participation in this survey, and helping to
determine
what are important needs for the goat industry.
Best regards,
Linda Campbell
