#6 Q: A customer has gone to once a day milking and remembers they need a
verification test. Does it have to be three tests?
#1 Q: A customer would like to start on test, what do they need to do?
#1 A: Send a DHIR information pack if they are wanting to go on test
immediately,
otherwise send the "Entering a herd on DHIR Test" help sheet,
explain
that this material contains such information as contacts, application
(if the
packet), and the instructions that will guide them through the process.
#2 Q: Where can a customer go on the web to check milk records?
#2 A: Go to the website,
http://www.aipl.arsusda.gov/ , select the "Evaluations Link", then
select the "Publicly Available
Queries" link. Scroll to the goat section and select the query you
would like
to use.
#3 Q: How will I know that milk stars have been applied to my does
records?
#3 A: You can check the members portion of the ADGA website by looking up
the
animal. Also, once a year ADGA provides an edit listing documenting what
records
have arrived from USDA. If records are missing from that list,
individual
doe sheets can be sent in. Stars are applied automatically as soon as
the
record comes in from USDA.
#4 Q: What is a DCR?
#4 A: A data collection rating is given to a milk record by USDA. This number
represents the frequency of testing, percentage of milkings weighed and
sampled
with component information and the level of test day supervision.
For example, a value of 100 for milk and 100 for components is equal to
monthly testing of a 305 day record with all milkings weighed and sampled.
Other
plans with less supervision will have lower DCRs, depending on the plan
and
frequency of testing.
#5 Q: How many tests do I need for Top Ten?
#5 A: Top Ten is based on meeting minimum DCR requirements not numbers of tests. DCR can be tracked at the same website mentioned above in #2.
#6 Q: A customer is on AM/PM testing and wants to know if the verification
test has to be three tests?
#6 A: Yes. Our guidebook requires three supervised milkings in a 24 hour
period.
#7 Q: A customer has gone to once a day milking and remembers they need a
verification test. Does it have to be three tests?
#7 A: Yes. Even if there is no milk at one of the milkings, that needs to be
documented by the test supervisor in order to meet the guidebook rules of
three
supervised tests.
