Hello,
At this time, the New Year is in full swing. Kids have arrived and show season is about to begin. I would like to take this time to encourage the youth to start or continue on a record book for your dairy goat project. As a ten year 4-H member and FFA American Degree recipient, I know there are plenty of opportunities through this endeavor. I have included an example of ideas for your own record book in this issue so you’ll have a head start. However, you can make yours any way you would like, so be creative! The first advantage of a record book is details about your herd. 4-H members can use this to help fill out project report forms or the National Report Form. These forms are based on one project and are available from your club leader. FFA members, as all of you are required to maintain a record book, I encourage you to participate in proficiency contests with your SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience). Area winners advance to the state level and are awarded a cash prize, plaque, etc.
ADGA youth members can put parts of their record book on display during Dairy Goat Awareness Week, June 10-17. I encourage you to participate in dairy goat awareness week by presenting a demonstration, displaying a poster, or making a public announcement on radio or television. This is a great opportunity to show your hard work of the past year and spread the word about dairy goats.
Youth members, please remember, we are the future of this organization. The skills you learn now will help you as you strive toward each goal. If you have any questions, or would like me to attend an event, please contact me.
Dream Big!
